After having served in the military for over 16 years as a team leader and Special Forces medic, and with a range of international deployments to countries facing armed conflict and crises, Derek can speak from a multitude of experiences and topics such as dealing with (extreme) stress, performance under pressure, leadership and resilience. Furthermore, Derek has a background in international business development and has gained experience in global crisis & security consultancy.

Based on these experiences, Derek has developed practical tools which are applicable in daily life and for businesses to experience less stress, enhance performance and improve resilience. Regarding leadership, Derek lives by the ethos of "lead by example". In combat situations Derek led his men by leading from the front. He now reveals that as a leader, influence is key and more important than authority, ranks or titles.

Derek has been performing as a key note & guest speaker for NATO, universities, corporate management teams and military institutions.

"Be Prepared"

Based on more than 20 years of knowledge & experience, as Special Forces medic, military leader and crisis consultant, Derek has recently founded a company called "Wees Voorbereid", which is Dutch for "Be Prepared". The mission of "Wees Voorbereid" is to improve the emergency preparedness of citizens from The Netherlands & Belgium by providing offline and online courses and training packages.

With his impressive life story and with several key topics, Derek knows how to inspire, energize and motivate his audience in his own unique and authentic way of speaking.
